[BACK-TO-BACK BINDING]

Den Forordnede Kirke-psalme-bog, med hosføyede Collecter, Epistler og Evangelier, Jesu Christi Lidelses Historie.

Copenhague, Udi det Kongelige Waëysen-Huses Bogtrykkerie, og paa dets Forlag, 1775.

In-12 (140 x 85 mm), 306 pp, spine-bound, marbled brown calf, gilt framing, ornate spines, gilt edges; two leaves are missing as a result of the binding (Danish binding of the period).

A charming specimen of a spine binding containing the psalms of Bishop Thomas Hansen Kingo (1634-1703), a well-known figure in Baroque spiritual poetry in Denmark. The second part of the volume contains texts from the New Testament.

This 1775 edition appears to be quite rare under this title, as no copies have been found in online library directories.

As a result of this back-to-back binding, the twelve leaves making up book G have been divided between the two sides of the binding. Leaves G1 to G10 are in the first part, leaves G11 and G12 begin the second.
The binder thus separated leaves G1 and G2 from their joint leaves G11 and G12, and glued them to leaves G3 and H1 respectively.
This arrangement did not work for leaves G1 and G2, which have become detached and are missing.
