[Geneva, before 1777]

Bifeuillet in-4 (270 x 210 mm), 3 pp. and one engraved plate.

Very rare prospectus of the first in-4 edition of Diderot and d'Alembert's Encyclopédie.

This edition was published by Jean Léonard Pellet in Geneva and the Société typographique in Neuchâtel between 1777 and 1780, and ultimately comprised 39 volumes, with 36 volumes of text and 3 volumes of plates. In a more manageable format than the original in-folio of 1751-1772, it incorporated the supplements into the body of the text and corrected nearly six thousand errors present in the original.
