[AMERICAN STUDENTS AT THE BEAUX-ARTS DE PARIS]

Collection of 14 painted postcards and 2 issues of Gazette Laloux, published by the American Student Committee of the Ecole des Beaux-Art de Paris.

Paris, 1916-1918.

Charming collection of 13 painted works and one engraving by American students at the Beaux-Arts de Paris.
These postcards were mainly sold to benefit Beaux-Arts students at the front or wounded, and to support their families. One is stamped "vente des oeuvres de blessés".

Most of the cards are signed and dated between 1916 and 1918. Five of the cards have a military theme (soldiers or bombed-out towns), three are about entertainment (dancers and a magician), while the others show views of Paris, Saint-Quentin or Nantes.

This collection features three different versos: the most common with the cannon illustration stating "The Comité des étudiants américains de l'Ecole des Beaux-arts Paris guarantee the authenticity of this postcard". Another reads "The Comité des étudiants américains de l'Ecole des Beaux-arts Paris guarantee the authenticity of this picture". The last is simply stamped by the Committee with the same information.

This set is completed by two issues of Gazette Laloux, whose offices were located at the Comité (n°18, September 1916, without cover, and n°22, January 1917). This autographed newspaper carried news of students at the front, notes, announcements, lists of dead and prisoners, and a few miscellaneous articles.
