A fine album of models by Parisian metal engraver Jean Hermin, a specialist in gilding irons and plates for leather, plates for luxury bookbindings, and other stamps, who practiced at 56 rue Daguerre (Paris's 14th arrondissement).
The first two leaves contain nearly 200 specimens of roulettes and fleurons. The rest of the album contains countless examples of various attributes, images, and motifs (some from the Mayeur foundry), commercial labels (including booksellers', printers', and stationers'), handwriting samples, signatures, and monograms.
The label specimens represent French production, but also many other countries such as India, England, and a strong representation of Latin American countries (Chile, Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina).
Jean Hermin made headlines in 1895 by killing his lover's stepfather with a file to the stomach.
