An amusing account of a school trip to Germany by students of the Ecole Estienne.
Attractive chromolithographed gilt cover, with portraits of Gutenberg, Estienne and Senefelder. The reverse bears the coat of arms of the Ecole Estienne. The book is illustrated with some twenty reproduced photographs.
Twelve of the most deserving students set off on this book-themed journey through Cologne, Leipzig, Berlin, Potsdam and Aachen. They were accompanied by school principal M. Fontaine, general supervisor Vidaillet, letterpress teacher Schott and former student Bonard.
This copy includes 8 original prints of photographs taken during the trip, 3 of which are not reproduced in the book:
- 3 group photographs (two in front of the Sans-Souci mill in Potsdam Park (one previously unpublished), and one in front of the Gutenberg statue in the Leipzig Book Museum)
- 5 views, including one of the Messagerie maritime in Cologne, one of the Gutenberg statue in the Leipzig Book Museum (unpublished), one of the New Palace in Potsdam, one of the cloister of Aachen Cathedral, and one of the banks of the Rhine, perhaps in Cologne (unpublished).
