Au Paradis terrestre. Cretaine, successeur de Deslaudres, confiseur, rue Montorgueil, 21.
Paris, lith. Desportes, [between 1834 and 1837].
One sheet (315 x 240 mm), lithographed composition (168 x 168 mm).
The small print suggests that this is not an advertising poster, but rather a label. Given its circular shape, could it have been intended for a can lid?
It features the confectionery Au Paradis Terrestre in the center, with a depiction of Adam and Eve, and is decorated all around with various scenes of life conducive to the consumption of confectionery: christenings, weddings and receptions, family meals, and the presentation of a companion.
The address of lithographer Jules Alexandre Desportes at 15 place du Pont-Neuf indicates that this label was lithographed between 1834 and 1837. This lithographer was a forerunner, mixing lithography and typography from 1835 onwards.
