Painted wooden box (105 x 110 x 70 mm), metal hinges; some rubbing, one lid hinge detached.

Amusing game box with a humorous scene or painted caricature on each side.
It contains a jeu de la puce, an infernal checkerboard and a set of 17 peddler's cards representing the peoples of the world, engraved by Ferdinand Lefman and enhanced with stencils (Paris, Typ. Vert aîné, circa 1870).

A rare record of a soldier's entertainment during the Franco-Prussian War.
