[THEATRICAL MANUSCRIPT]

La Comédie bourgeoise.

[Late 18th century]

In-12 (165 x 125 mm), (1) f., 75 pp. in marbled calf, ornate spine, speckled edges; one spine split but good condition overall (period binding).

Charming manuscript of an unpublished "bourgeois comedy", probably reserved for private use.
It features a Parisian bourgeois named M. Cabriolet, his wife, his two daughters (Dulcinée and Thomine), his brother and his valet (Oronte and Sautiquet), a barrier clerk (Rollet), a doctor (Guéritard), a bad author (Declamin), and a superintendent.

This late 18th-century manuscript bears witness to the growing success of this type of comedy, which really took off in the 1820s.
