Déscription abrégeé [sic] de l’Hopital royal de la Marine à Greenwich, extraite de la relation historique, publiée par Messieurs les Chapelains.
[London] Cette Description ne se ven [sic] qu’a l’Hospital, 1793.
In-12 (190 x 120 mm), (2) ff. 40 pp. and one folding plate, contemporary paper jacket.
Very rare translation into French by a certain Mrs W. Charron of this presentation of the Royal Hospital at Greenwich.
The authors, mentioned as MM les chapelains in the title, were John Cooke (1738-1823) and John Maule (1748-1825).
The text of this 1793 edition has been recomposed, with typographical and layout corrections to the undated first edition. It contains the history of the construction of the hospital, a description of the painted room, the chapel, the council chamber, the infirmary and the school.
A charming copy in its waiting paper binding as it could be purchased from its only point of sale: the Greenwich Hospital.
We have found no copies under this date in online library directories, and three copies of the earlier edition (undated, 1789?) in the CCFR.
