[UNIQUE ARTIST’S BOOK] Fernande PERRINET PISSARRO

Mes amis les bêtes.

Ashford, 9 October 1918.

Small 12mo (153 x 118 mm), 8 ff., blue half cloth, upper cover decorated with the title engraved on wood; text block slightly loose, some light soiling (Contemporary binding).

Charming “manuscript edition”, produced in a single copy by Fernande Perrinet, wife of Ludovic-Rodo Pissarro (1878–1952), one of the sons of Camille Pissarro (1830–1903). It was made in Ashford, where the couple were then living.

The illustrations comprise four wood engravings by Fernande Perrinet, hand-coloured by the artist, together with five ornaments drawn and watercoloured by her.

This little work may in some respects be regarded as a cousin to the productions of the Eragny Press, founded by Fernande Perrinet’s brother-in-law Lucien Pissarro (1863–1944) and his wife Esther (1870–1951).
