Interesting invoice summarizing the care provided by a master surgeon to the Jewish community of Avignon from March 1756 to March 1761.
La Communauté des Juifs de cette carrière doivent à L. R. Beauregard Me chirurgien davignon, Pour Penssements, soins, vacations, opérations, et saignées, faites aux dits Juifs ou les siens (?), de même que les Etrangers [...].
This invoice lists numerous wounds to arms and feet, teeth pulled out, head wounds, gut descent...
Numerous Carrière inhabitants are named: the rabbi, La Joye, his wife, a German Jew, a German woman, Souche, Sara chez gentillon, Le Boiteux's wife, Finette's husband, Finette, Lelé, Rousse de Cavaillon, Lecote, Breton's wife, Abraham de monteux's boy, Benjamin, Davigne's wife, Lecotte's son and even “a foreign rabbi who had received a sword blow”.
The bill was paid, as indicated by a final autograph note from the surgeon: “j'ay reçu des mains de monsieur Salomond à (?) trésorier de la communauté de cette carrière d'avignon le montant dudit compte dont content le quitte a avignon ce 24 8bre 1761”.
