In-4 (290 x 205 mm), 602 pp, half vellum with corners, smooth spine, speckled edges, label of Girardot Papetier Relieur à Troyes; tear without missing on title page, one leaf formerly cut out with no apparent lack of text, binding rubbed, two jaws split (Early 19th century binding).

Important manuscript containing four copies of travel books on Turkey, Greece, Hungary, Germany, Italy and Spain, published at the end of the 18th century.

1) Extraits des Lettres de Milady Wortlay Montagute écrites pendant ses voyages en diverses parties du Monde. From the beginning in August 1716 to October 1718. New edition. Paris, Duchesne, 1764. 106 pp.
Copy of the original French edition, published one year after the original English edition.
The letters of Milady Montagute, wife of the English ambassador to Constantinople, provide a rare, if not one of the only, female accounts of customs in Turkey, Greece and Hungary at the time. In it, she discusses Turkish customs, as well as harem life, where she was the first European to enter and visit Moorish baths.

2) SALABERRY (Charles-Marie d'Irumberry de). Extrait d'un voyage à Constantinople en Italie et aux îles de l'archipel par l'Allemagne et la Hongrie. Paris, Chez Maradan, year 7 [1798-1799]. 76 pp.
Copy of the first edition of this epistolary travel report. The voyage took place between October 1790 and November 1791.

Copy of the first edition of the French translation of the first part of “Travels in the Two Sicilies” published in 1783.
