[TYPOGRAPHIC ART] MARQUILY (Emile)

Composition “Panthéon de l’imprimerie typographique” executed for the 1883 typographic competition, known as the Berthier Competition.

[Paris] October 1883.

One sheet (525 x 470 mm); a few stains and small holes, small tears and browning.

Superb typographic composition in green, black and red, executed by typographer Emile Marquily, who represented the Chaix printing house at the 1883 Berthier competition. He had been a student at the Ecole Professionnelle de l'Imprimerie Chaix from 1877 to 1881.

The composition shows a pantheon on which are inscribed the great names in the history of printing. The printing was carried out on the Chaix presses by F. Barrère.

About this typographer, see the article Un maître de la typographie disparaît in Le Progrès de Seine-&-Oise of July 4, 1942.
