[HANDWRITTEN TOOL-BOOK]

Tables for measuring surfaces.

[First half of the 18th century]

In-8 (210×130 mm), 67 vellum pages including four blanks, stiff vellum overlay, smooth spine, untrimmed; binding stained, some pages rubbed (period binding).

Superb specimen of a handwritten toolbook on vellum skin, featuring some forty small sketches and geometric figures.
Finely calligraphed, this collection of tables was used to calculate surfaces using dimensions in inches, feet and toises. It was probably produced for the use of craftsmen and architects.

A fine example of the complexity of surface calculations under the Ancien Régime.
